Navigating Employment Issues

The Labour Standards Division

Employers must adhere to the provincial Labour Standards Act. This legislation imposes certain minimum conditions on most employment contracts of service:

  • minimum wage levels

  • hours of work

  • health and safety standards

  • vacation time

  • other employment-related regulations

    If you have experienced any form of sexual violence in the workplace and are wondering about your legal options, the team at the Journey Project is here for you.

  • The Public Legal Information Association NL

    The Public Legal Information Association of NL (PLIAN), is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing access to justice and legal education in Newfoundland and Labrador. PLIAN maintains a general legal information service whereby you can call or email them for free legal information on worker's rights or other legal matters, or obtain a lawyer referral for basic legal advice at a one-time rate of 30 minutes for $40.00 (tax included). Their website also contains many free legal publications and other legal tools to assist in navigating the legal system.
